Burns Lake’s Thriving Mountain Biking Community
Burns Lake’s mountain biking community is highly active and well-organized, with an abundance of accessible and easy-to-navigate trails. Boer Mountain Recreation Site, which spans over 4000 hectares of Crown land, is the primary location for mountain biking in the area, located just a short drive north of the town. The recreation site includes a campground on Kager Lake, which serves as the “hub” for approximately 30 km of downhill and 60 km of cross-country trails. For beginner and intermediate riders, trails around Kager Lake provide a fun and enjoyable experience. For advanced riders, there are various challenging options to choose from, including the 18 km Razorback all-mountain trail, which runs from the Bike Park to the top of Boer Mountain. From the top, riders can choose from several other options including the 10 km Pigasus down-country trail, the black diamond Full Boer or Shawn’s Flow, and the blue runs Charlottes Web and the signature Gravity Logic built When Pigs Fly. The pinnacle of the ride is the Pierce Hofer Memorial, an impressive 2000+ square foot wall ride that sits adjacent to the Kager Lake parking lot.

Kager Lake also features 12 picturesque walk-in camping/picnicking sites, camping Rec sites, and boat launch. The park’s well-marked routes twist around a wetland area, several streams, and a number of small lakes. The Bike Park includes a variety of cross-country and downhill trails, with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Various trails include fun and challenging features such as jumps, drops, wall rides boardwalks, and a Four Cross track.

Directions: To get there from Burns Lake take 5th Ave. from Hwy 16 to meet up with Gowan Road. Once on Gowan Road, continue until you reach Boer Mountain Lookout Road. Turn left. Follow the road until you see the bike trails.
