Due to the remote nature of the Lakes District, many of the lakes, recreation areas, and attractions are accessed by using resource roads (also known as Forest Service Roads). While these roads provide access to some of the most pristine wilderness in BC, they are not built the same as highways and therefore users must be aware of potential dangers.
The BC Forest Safety Council has a Resource Road User Safety Guide that describes what you may expect while driving on resource roads and describes general driving guidelines.
Before you head out, check in with staff at the Visitor Centre who can inform you of road conditions as well as provide maps and directions to your destination. This will ensure you have a safe and enjoyable visit to the Lakes District!
